Six Months Smile

1. In a nutshell what is Six Months Smile?

Six Months Smile focuses on straightening the front teeth you see when you smile.

Six Months Smile takes six months to complete treatment, this is because the braces are focusing on a smaller number of teeth.

Six Months Smile uses clear braces and wires the same colour as your teeth, so the braces are almost invisible and aesthetic in appearance.

Six Months Smile uses a wire with a `memory shape’ designed to gradually move your teeth into their desired position.

2. Who is suitable for Six Months Smile?

Patients suitable for Six Months Smile will be those who are generally happy with the appearance of their teeth but would like to create a straighter smile.

Six Months Smile is not suitable for patients with complex orthodontic problems and who would like to improve their bite.

3. What are the benefits of Six Months Smile?

Six Months Smile is a great alternative to traditional metal braces; it is less painful, requires less dental visits and has the benefit of appearance.

Six Months Smile has the benefit of being a faster treatment than other orthodontic options such as Invisalign.

Although Six Months Smile focuses on less complex cases, its shorter time means that there is less chance of other dental problems that can occur with orthodontic treatment, such as gum disease.

Six Months Smile’s main aim is to improve the appearance of your smile, enabling patients to feel more confident during social interactions.

Six Months Smile is more affordable than other brace options due to be a quicker treatment time.

Patients also don’t have to visit their dentist as often for adjustments as you would with traditional braces.

Six Months Smile provides predictable results, at Dental & Skin we can provide you with pictures of how your teeth will look once treatment is completed.

Six Months Smile is a small force working on your teeth, this increases patient comfortability whilst your teeth are being gradually moved into position.

4. What are the risks and limitations of Six Months Smile?

Six Months Smile has a quicker treatment time however, it is not suitable for complex orthodontic cases as it only works on the front set of teeth.

Six Months Smile does not correct the way teeth bite together.

Braces require a substantial amount of the patient’s and dentist’s’ time. The overall success of your treatment will depend upon your cooperation. This involves attending appointments and maintaining oral hygiene.

When having braces your teeth and gums are at more risk of gum disease. At Dental & Skin we will give you advice on how to maintain your oral health whilst wearing your braces.

At first you may experience some discomfort whilst wearing your braces, it will require dedication and perseverance to get used to your braces for your first week or so.

5. What is the treatment process?

At Dental & Skin we offer free consultations for braces. In this first appointment we will carry out a dental check up, x-rays, and discuss which brace is best to achieve your desired results.

At your second appointment we will take impressions of your teeth and gums to send to our laboratory to create your braces.

Once your braces have arrived we will invite you back to the clinic to fit your braces. After fitting patients will return to the clinic once a month to tighten their braces.

When your treatment is completed, a retainer will be necessary to ensure that your teeth remain in their perfect position.

6. Will I experience any pain with my braces?

Patients who wear Six Months Smile clear brace are less likely to experience pain than patients wearing metal braces.

Six Months Smile braces are customised to fit securely onto your teeth with no sharp edges to irritate your gums or cheeks.

Patients may experience slight discomfort whilst getting used to your braces, however this discomfort is temporary and not likely to be painful.

7. Will my speech be affected?

Most patients find that their speech is not affected by their braces. Whilst you get used to them you may find speaking a little odd with the braces in your mouth however, after a few days this feeling will become normal.

8. Post-Treatment Care

After you have finished your Six Months Smile treatment it is important to book for a dental exam to check for any tooth decay or cavities.

At Dental & Skin we will provide you with an oral health care routine to maintain the results of your newly straight teeth.

After treatment most patients will need a retainer to maintain their results. Once you have finished wearing your braces, it is important to book in to have your retainers custom made.

Similarly, to braces it is key that patients wear their retainers for the time period required to maintain their results.
